Over the past several weekends, we have had some stellar Kentucky Derby Prep races to look forward to. That’s not the case this week or for at least the next several.
The Derby itself has been pushed back to September due to Covid-19. Several of the big remaining prep races, including the Wood Memorial, Bluegrass, and Santa Anita Derby, have been postponed with make-up dates to be determined.
Looking ahead to May 2, the Arkansas Derby is still scheduled to run at Oaklawn Park as of now, but we will naturally have to consider that subject to change due to the current environment.
The schedule for horse racing as a whole across the US has been rather light as numerous tracks have put a hold on things due to the crisis. A handful are still running without spectators, so we do have some action to focus on for the weekend.

The highlight of a 10-race card at Oaklawn is the Purple Martin, a 6 Furlong race on a dirt track for three-year-old fillies with 10 starters. Post time is set for 5:09 ET.

Weekend Carryovers
As of this writing, there’s a handful of pools which continue to grow.
$398,294 Pick 6 at Golden Gate
$39,699 Pick 6 at Gulfstream Park
$10,717 Pick 6 at Los Alamitos
$6,771 Pick 6 at Tampa Bay
To hit the Pick 6, bettors need to pick the winner of six consecutive wagers on the card. If just a lone user hits it, then they get the jackpot prize. If the Pick 6 is hit by multiple bettors, then a portion is split amongst the winners while the rest of the pool carries over.
Naturally, these wagers are tough to hit. However, they add to the entertainment value and also offer up the chance to make an exceptional return off of a small initial investment.
For additional wagering options this weekend, keep an eye on the status of these jackpots in advance of the cards. Here’s a place for you to check it out in an instant.
It’s a light weekend as a whole, but you can include us in the camp of those who are thankful for the diversion that horse racing provides. Best of luck and enjoy the races!
